Why Can’t I Edit My Business Fan Page?

Have you ever searched for your business name on Facebook, found a fan page with no information and a generic image of a suitcase instead of a logo, and discovered you could not change “your” fan page?

If you see “Community Pages are not affiliated with, or endorsed by, anyone associated with the topic.” then this is not a true fan page at all. It is a Facebook community page

If what you are seeing is the real fan page for your business, you are logged in, and you are unable to edit the fan page, then you had better hope someone else has access to edit the fan page! The best cure is prevention. Make sure multiple people are set as admins for the page; you don’t want the only person with access to disappear.

Facebook automatically creates “community pages” based on information people put in their profile. Whatever people enter in their work history (such as being owner of a certain small business) or their links and interests results in a new “community fan page” being automatically generated, if it doesn’t exist. You have no control over this page–unless you’re able to have a Wikipedia page for your business, in which case Facebook may pull some content from that page.

The “recent posts” option will show posts people have made mentioning that subject.

The lesson here? Don’t worry if you see a page that looks like this. Just go on and create a real fan page for your business.
